A retrospective review of the management and outcomes of patients diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type II using electrodiagnostic findings

Objectives To assess the outcomes of use electrodiagnosis in diagnosis and management discrete nerve injuries Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) patients.Design Secondary retrospective cohort analysis patients diagnosed with CRPS from a single outpatient physical medicine rehabilitation clinic. All who had abnormal electrodiagnostic findings, addition to CRPS.Results Sixty 248 underwent electrodiagnosis; 41 whom findings indicating injury. Only 51% referrals indicated suspicion Nearly all undergone physiotherapy. 41% responded treatment oral prednisone alone, 54% functional improvement after combination treatments including corticosteroids, 5% improved that did not involve corticosteroids. Surgical interventions for were required 34% cohort. surgeries involved median or ulnar nerve, except one fibular nerve. After treatment, 39 recoveries better.Conclusions Electrodiagnosis can inform injury direct intervention need surgical intervention. should be considered initial signs concomitant are responding as may underlying.
